New iPhone and iPad Models Revealed by iOS 4.3 Firmware

When new firmware comes out the first thing that most of us iPhone geeks try to do is take a peek inside to see if there are any new iOS devices mentioned. Well before I could even whisper ‘decrypt’, Engadget has already posted a screenshot of the core firmware file that describes several new iDevices that are headed our way including two new iPhone models and 3 iPads!

Our current AT&T iPhone 4 is there, designated as iPhone3,1, accompanied by the new iPhone3,2 which is the Verizon version. There is, however, two new-generation iPhones denoted by the iPhone4,1 and iPhone4,2 designation and three new iPads 2,1; 2,2; and 2,3. If I had to venture a guess I’d say that the two iPhones are the iPhone 5 for AT&T and Verizon and the three iPad models are one WiFi, one GSM/UMTS and one CDMA to match up with the two carriers.

Only time will tell what those new models are, but for now it’s fun to speculate!
